We are wolves! We take what we need!.
— Niju during 'The Grand Design' song

Niju is a wolf and the main antagonist of Balto II: Wolf Quest

Niju is voiced; by Mark Hamill.

Appearance[]

Niju is impressively the second large wolf (Nuk being larger due to his massive appetite) and almost certainly being the strongest member of the wolf pack which allows him to intimidate and defeat other wolves, easily tackling and overpowering Aleu and throwing off Nava. His fur is dark brown with a gray underbelly, his only markings are dark patches around his eyes and his whiskers were purposely made more visible.

Personality[]

Niju seems to represent Steele in a similar way. Unlike the elderly leader Nava, he is very vigorous and prideful, ready to break the rules of the land and steal for what he desired, although seemingly doing so because of the desire to live. He is also shown to suffer from a fear of change; which probably causes his callous actions, as Nava claims that; Niju will willingly starve or die than depart his homeland. Not only that; but he is led; by fear; instead of stinginess.

Biography[]

Niju sees Balto and Aleu and orders his followers, Nuk, Yak and Sumac to attack them. When they're not doing well, he tries to interfere, but is stopped by Nava and the pack. Niju plans to take over the wolf pack with the aid of Nuk, Yak, and Sumac. Nava tells his fellow wolves that Niju is leading them to their doom. By that, Niju gains a bunch of followers and the pack eventually starts to follow him, but Balto tries to stop them from being outnumbered. When he almost reaches Nava, Aleu claims that she saw the future and the ice bridge will form when it leads to the caribou. The entire pack including Nuk, Yak, and Sumac then turn back to Nava, Balto and Aleu. Niju also attempts to kill Nava who's too old to defend himself as well as Aleu tries to help him, but the selfish wolf's plans are foiled by Balto when the latter offers Niju the opportunity to lead the pack. His fear of change gets the better of him and he flees into the forest. After Aleu becomes the pack's new leader, Nava tells Balto that he'll go and find Niju because they're still a clan and one would not be whole without the other.
